Long-time Montanans Jack Taylor and Kay Flinn Taylor are beginning a new chapter in Whitefish. In Helena and Bozeman, they made beautiful music, many friends, a houseful of heirloom treasures, and a private library to keep readers and collectors happy for decades.

We offer the amazing library of Dr. John (Jack) Taylor, an MSU professor for 35 years and a Lewis & Clark scholar. It is one of the most comprehensive private collections in the state. Come when we open and spend hours poring over the 1,500-plus Montana and regional books including many rare, hard-to-find and 1st edition volumes about Montana and Western history, Lewis & Clark, fur traders, Native Americans, birding, Glacier and Yellowstone Parks, Montana artists, photographers and photography. Authors, editors, and publishers include Caxton, Powell, Ambrose, Schultz, DeVoto, Gass, Phillips, Cutright, Doig, Guthrie, University of Oklahoma, Nebraska, Illinois & Easton presses, Moulton, Thwaites, Jackson & Spence, and many others. The sale includes many old pamphlets, small publications, and magazines from throughout the region, including a near-complete set of Montana, the Magazine of Western History, a set of its contributions, and the photography and art of Huffman, Cleary & Morgan, many art print sets.

You’ll find Camp Rimini WWII snowshoes, old bamboo rods, packs, camping equipment, modern camera equipment, compasses, brass weight sets, old technical & scientific instruments, tools, a near-new lawnmower, small freezer, king bed set, and many bookcases. A fine collection of antique cameras also will be sold, as will a complete darkroom set with supplies ready to go for the film photographer, along with complete lighting and backdrop sets.

Kay Flinn Taylor is a fourth generation Montanan, and family treasures will be offered, including 12 beautiful, gold-encrusted chargers, an ornately carved Asian desk and chair, a set of spoon-carved parlor chairs said to have traveled by riverboat to Ft. Benton. In 1919, Aunt Lyllah hand-painted a complete set of china—110 pieces of that china will grace a holiday table. Turkish wool and Afghan carpets, needlepoint chairs, and a vintage carved sideboard also will be sold. Kay’s friends will remember her warm hospitality and sparkling parties. Sterling, silverplate—including an English coffee and tea set, and contemporary Godinger flatware for 10– cookware, small appliances, cookbooks, stemware, linens, a bottom freezer fridge, all to be sold. Many pottery pieces including some by Josh DeWeese, Lisa Harpole, and Sarah Yeager are in the collection. Also a Husqvarna Viking 1020 machine, a tasteful wardrobe of classic clothing, and many travel souvenirs.

The house is modest in size, but the collections are incredible, and all will be sold. Rain or shine. We’ll stay open late for shoppers.
