Founded in 1879 by Joseph K. and Edwin Toole, one of Montana’s oldest law firms has closed. We’re honored to offer the furnishings of this historic firm over two weekends in October.
For Montanans, it’s the chance of a lifetime to purchase matching sets of beautiful barrister bookcases. The offering includes furniture, antique and contemporary, along with art, books, maps and prints gathered over a century of business.
Antique furniture includes beautiful barrister bookcases, many from the Great Northern Rail Legal Department of the late 1900s and carved oak antique conference tables said to have originated in the law office of Montana’s legendary Sen. Thomas Walsh. Also to be sold are an ornate carved buffet, a Montana Senate desk, Bank of England-style chairs, oak desks antique and modern, and a carved library table.
Art includes Bob Morgan originals and prints, and works by Coppock, Eiker, Shope, Terpning, Gary Carter, Tucker Smith, a dazzling original Cleworth Harley Davidson painting, a Ron Herron sculpture of Big Medicine along with Lewis and Clark prints and bronzes.
Many hard-to-find Great Northern Railroad prints, maps and calendar tops; old maps include Butte mining maps and state maps, including one by John Hibbard, large framed railroad maps and other ephemera.
Antique office equipment includes many old typewriters, adding machines, Helena and Montana seals.
Books include 18th and 19th century rare law books, territorial, state and municipal law books, first printings of the 1887 Montana Constitutional Convention, and Helena city directories back to the 1920s.
Beautiful executive desks and credenzas will be sold, as well as useful contemporary desks, file cabinets, tables. Come and make great buys for your office or your collections.
Sale will be conducted at the firm’s building, Aspen Court, on the south end of Helena’s walking mall. 33 South Last Chance Gulch. Please enter on the upper level, off of the Jackson Street parking lot just beyond the Ghost Art Gallery’s back door.
Sale hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. Additional items will be added for the second sale Oct. 8 and 9 on both levels of the building.
