When long-time Helena librarian, antiques dealer, avid collector and reader Larry Anderson left this world, he left behind an amazing array of stuff. His house is a treasure trove reflective of his eclectic tastes, sense of humor and passion for life.

Now Larry’s vast and diverse collection will be sold. There’s a smooth running 1974 VW bus and a ’73 Caddy. The 3,000+ books which filled his home include classic old sci-fi, rare and first editions, Montana books, cook books, fiction, non-fiction, history, humor, how-to, reference, and more. Also offered are great antique furniture, including a small roll-top, marble-topped dressers, hall tree, fancy tables, spool cabinet, brass bed, curio and buffet, large Chinese chest, book cases, many lamps. Two signed Lee Nye “Eddy’s Club” famous portraits are offered.
Larry’s special passion was Asian arts and crafts: Chinese and Japanese art, woodcuts, large, striking Chinese silk embroidered art, cloisonné, champlevé, brass lamps, gongs, cinnabar and enamels.
Also offered are 10 antique clocks (calendar clock, grandfather), Holmes & Edwards “Lovely Lady” silverplate, never used in its original deco box; classic art deco pieces, a small, old flat-bed printing press with lead and wood type, crocks, many hand and power tools, boxes of parts, skeleton keys and old hardware, glass doorknobs, lamps and stained glass, old mining scales and weights, incense burner from old Canton Church, huge brass collection, coins, old advertising, antique hand painted portrait tiles, kitchen wares, small stove, washer and dryer, many stereo components.
Larry’s lifetime collection includes Retro Vita Mix, crock pots and coffee pots which have become collectable, comics and magazines including “Mad” and “Conan”. American, Chinese and Persian carpets, including a beautiful rooms size rug. There is so much in this small house, we will conduct multiple weekend-long sales. Bring your patience, curiosity and sturdy shoes and enjoy this remarkable collection July 27 and 28.
The final sale is Aug. 10 and 11. While we are still uncovering and unpacking in the second floor, we’ve found more antique architectural salvage, impressive antique chairs, pine and oak dressers, more books; large, strange wood carving, dozens of glass and stained glass lamp shades, antique scrap books, stuffed animals, textiles and so much more. Not to be missed!
